Reflections on my classroom experiences. I am an early childhood educator inspired by progressive practices. As a teacher inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, this is an online journal of my time in the classroom.

Roxbury Principal Fires Security Guards, Hires Art Teachers

In Reggio Emilia, someone articulated something that I knew but couldn’t articulate myself. This person told me, how an adult views children will affect how they respond and react to children. These responses and actions will be reciprocated by the…

Make Our Voice Heard! We Deserve a Better Contract!

Dear Friends and Family,

The teachers of Helen Gordon are currently engaged in discussions with the Oregon University System in order to bargain for a better contract. We are a model center whose area of influence moves beyond the classrooms we serve. I…

Study Tourism in Reggio Emilia

It’s hard not to get past the excitement that I am traveling to another country as a tourist.  To think about duomos, and leaning towers, and pasta, and wine.    But I am going on a study tour.  I am being given an opportunity that is much bigger than…

I am going to Reggio Emilia!

As anyone who knows me would expect, I am very excited. I will be part of Portland State University’s contingency. We are part of a larger study tour group that the municipal schools of Reggio Emilia will be hosting.

I plan on seeing the city, meeting the movers and shakers out there, reflecting and sharing stories with other Reggio inspired educators, renting a bike, and frollicking. I will do lots of frollicking.

And I will take lots of pictures! Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on who you are, I will not be able to take pictures of the actual centers themselves, but I will be in a town that puts young children in the forefront of importance. I cannot wait.

Stay posted. I will be in Reggio Emila from March 22-March 26.
