Reflections on my classroom experiences. I am an early childhood educator inspired by progressive practices. As a teacher inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, this is an online journal of my time in the classroom.

Our mini studio! With inservice we are given the opportunity to work on our environments. We really wanted to include natural, recycled, and reuse materials in the area. The intention is to have the children use the studio as a place to make representations about what they know. Then we can take those ideas and dig deeper.
Some documentation of our emotional studies.
Our outer space area is starting to come together. The children have designed and built the items we have put in there. We put the documentation right there as a way to reflect on the work we have done, which has been a launching pad for digging deeper.
Our building area! Again, we really wanted to include recycled and reuse materials. We will see how it goes. I don’t think we will introduce or talk.about the materials before we use it. I want to see what the children male of it. Our class is used to using reuse materials, but this time the items are bigger and there are no adhesives (glue or tape). This is also a proof of concept to schools who worry about spending lots of money on materials. The majority of stuff in this area was free.
When I first started working at Helen Gordon, people were interested in how I was liking it here. I would respond that it felt like a honeymoon. I felt like I had connected with a school that I had been in love with for a long time, and that while I was there, I was finding more and more things to love about the place.
